Ballard competes in the highly competitive Raccoon River Conference. Ballard is a growing school district in central Iowa. We have excellent facilities and strong athletic programs. Ballard has tremendous community support for their athletic programs. Our coaching staff works great together and encourages student-athletes to be involved in multiple sports and activities. We appreciate volunteers working to continue to build on the current program’s success.

Qualifications:

-Up to date coaching authorization (or in the process of being renewed)

-Up to date required trainings for Ballard (or in the process of being completed)

-Completion of a background check

Job Title: Strength & Conditioning Coach

Reports to: Athletic Director

Basic Function: The Strength & Conditioning Coach is responsible for designing, implementing, and overseeing training programs that enhance athletic performance, reduce injury risk, and promote overall physical well-being for student-athletes. They work collaboratively with coaches and staff to ensure programs align with team needs and school athletic goals while fostering a culture of hard work, discipline, and growth.

Essential Functions:

+ Program Development: Design and implement comprehensive strength and conditioning programs tailored to the needs of all athletic teams and individual athletes.

+ Athlete Training: Lead structured workouts that focus on strength, speed, agility, endurance, and injury prevention while ensuring proper technique and safety.

+ Collaboration: Work closely with sport coaches to integrate conditioning programs that complement team goals and competition schedules.

+ Injury Prevention & Rehabilitation Support: Coordinate with athletic trainers to develop injury prevention strategies and assist with rehabilitation programs as needed.

+ Facility & Equipment Management: Maintain weight room facilities, ensure proper use of equipment, and oversee necessary maintenance or upgrades.

+ Education & Supervision: Teach athletes proper lifting techniques, warm-ups, cooldowns, and recovery methods to maximize performance and minimize injury risks.

+ Player Discipline & Accountability: Establish and enforce expectations for athlete participation, effort, and behavior in the strength and conditioning program.

+ Data Tracking & Performance Analysis: Monitor athlete progress, assess program effectiveness, and adjust training plans based on performance data and goals.

+ Compliance: Ensure all training programs align with school policies, conference regulations, and state guidelines for high school athletics.

+ Leadership & Culture: Foster a positive, disciplined, and motivating training environment that supports student-athletes’ physical and mental growth.

+ Professional Development: Stay up to date on best practices, emerging trends, and advancements in strength and conditioning.

+ Community Engagement: Promote strength and conditioning initiatives within the school and local community to encourage participation and support.

+ Maintain high integrity and confidentiality in school operations.

+ Be knowledgeable of and abide by all school board policies, procedures, and applicable laws.

+ Cooperate and work courteously with co-workers and school personnel.

+ Demonstrate professionalism, organization, and a commitment to student success.

+ Represent the school positively in all interactions with students, parents, and the community.

+ Attend work on a prompt and regular basis.

Qualifications:

+ Previous coaching or strength and conditioning experience required.

+ Strong knowledge of strength training principles, conditioning techniques, and injury prevention strategies.

+ Certification through a recognized organization (e.g., NSCA-CSCS, NASM, USAW, or ACSM) preferred.

+ Bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, exercise science, physical education, or a related field preferred.

+ Excellent communication, leadership, and motivational skills.

+ Ability to work effectively with student-athletes, coaches, and athletic staff.

Working Conditions:

+ The position may require evening and weekend work, as well as travel for away games and competitions.

+ Work environment varies depending on the sport, but may include outdoor fields, indoor arenas, or gymnasiums.

+ Physical requirements may include standing for long periods, running, and demonstrating techniques to players.

Terms of Employment:

+ As stated in the signed Contract

+ The term of the position shall run concurrent with the specified sport coached, according to the approved Unified Activity Calendar by the Iowa High School Athletic Association.
